>Back to Burgundy

>

I loooove this fall’s colors, especially one of them.. Burgundy, bordeaux, ruby, call it what you want, but I’m in love with the deep red color! I’ve seen it on the runway in a lot of collections, and now fall fashion is finally in stores I’ve seen quite a few affordable pieces as well! I love combining it simply with black and white, but I think it also looks great with dark blue or dark green. From runway to store, I’m going back to burgundy this fall. What do you think about this color, love it?

>Back from being not so gone.

>

Hello clouds. Hello cold. Hello traffic jam. I’m back in the Netherlands, back from an amazing vacation with my boyfriend in Madeira. Not that you had to miss me, since there was Wifi everywhere on the island so I could share my experiences with you. But for me, it feels kind of good to be back. I love going on vacation, but I also love coming home to my own apartment, my own cat, my own closet, my own bed. Too bad I couldn’t take the weather home, though!
Back to where I was going.. Madeira was great. I would definitely recommend going there when you’re looking for a beautiful island that is quite peaceful. We did a lot of relaxing, swimming, dining, and visiting little towns. Not such a great island for people who are afraid of heights, want to do a lot of shopping on vacation (there’s only one visit-worthy mall), or people that want to go clubbing every night. Our vacation was quiet and relaxing, just what we needed, some quality time together. Here are a few more highlights, if you want to see more of my Madeira pictures click here and here
Oh, and another reason I’m quite happy to be back home again: stores are filled with new fall collections! And since I’m only about 40 steps removed from Zara.. Gotta go!

What you’re looking at:
Waterfalls
The infinity pool at the hotel
Having pizza
Getting a tan
Romantic dinner with lots of wine on the last night
The mountains of Madeira
Having ice cream (it was so hot outside!)
Watching the sunset
The sea
My ‘garden of eden’ look, Madeira had so many beautiful places  to take pictures!

Selected items: Turquoise and Grey

As you’ve read in one of my earlier posts, I’m really into turquoise. So today’s selected items are dedicated to this amazing color. I like to mix it with white, black and grey since that makes the color really stand out. And if you’re wearing some smashing accessories, you don’t need a crazy outfit to wow people, some simple items will do the trick. So quite a simple outfit, but it’s the color that does the trick. I’m a big fan of these pants!

>Pasta and Greens

>

Here’s another few ideas for in the kitchen, for a change. With all the diet hypes, it seems like pasta is a big ‘no go’ nowadays. A plate full of carbs, why would anyone eat that? I actually eat pasta quite a lot. It doesn’t have to be a carb-filled dish! When I cook pasta, I cook a humble amount of it and fill the rest of my plate with veggies and some kind of protein. And as a variation to the traditional pasta with tomato sauce, I make my pasta with green veggies, which I love. Here are some ideas to make your pasta a healthy dish and getting at least two of your five a day!

Asparagus, broccoli and cheese pasta
Who doesn’t love his mac ‘n cheese? Nothing wrong with that, but I do always add some veggies to my macaroni or other pasta with cheese. Broccoli and asparagus go really well with this pasta with grated parmesan. You can add a tablespoon (or two) of cream cheese or creme fraiche to make it more creamy.  Add some pine nuts for a nice bite!
Pasta with green beans and bacon
I love this recipe and have made it quite a lot. The sweetness of green beans goes so well with the saltiness of the bacon. What I usually do is put half of the beans (150g) in the blender with some grated parmesan and a splash of white wine, salt and pepper, and put half of the beans in the pasta as they are, so you get two textures. I mix the the pea puree with the pasta, sprinkle the rest of the green beans on top, add some more parmesan and some crispy bacon I’ve crisped up in the oven. One of my favorites!
Pasta with asparagus, snap pea and avocado
This pasta is quite plain but definitely a healthy and delicious dish! I like using different varieties of pasta. That way, if I eat pasta multiple times a weak, I don’t have the feeling I’m eating the same thing all the time. This one’s a bow tie pasta with spring vegetables like asparagus, snap pea and avocado. Just grate some parmesan on top and your done! It only takes a few minutes!
Lemony prawn and pea pasta
This pasta is great since lemon and prawns obviously are a match made in heaven. Just cook any pasta you like. Make a mixture of some sour cream or creme fraiche, lemon juice and lemon zest, and a little bit of parmesan. Add that to your pasta, with some boiled shrimps and peas. I actually eat a lot of peas, since I always have those in the freezer and go well with a lot of things. That way I can always easily add some more greens to my dishes!
Creamy pasta with zucchini and salmon
Ok, and it has peas again. But as I’ve said, keeping peas in your freezer gives you the healthy option of easily adding veggies to dishes. Stir fry or just fry the zucchini for 3 minutes, add some salmon and than a cup of creme fraiche and two tablespoons of pesto. Put the peas into the sauce, and when you’re spaghetti is cooked, put that into the sauce as well. Some salt and pepper, and again that’s all there is to a great healthy recipe. Bon appetit!

>Inspiring: Leighton Meester

>

Here’s a little hommage to Leighton Meester and her style. Especially what she wears in her day to day life. Of course she looks stunning on the runway, but almost every celebrity does. What inspires me about Leighton is that her casual style is amazing too. It looks like she does an effort to look good every time she walks out the door. Which sounds pretty exhausting to me, especially if you’re a celebrity.
I really like her style and her stunning beauty. Wouldn’t we all like to look like Leighton?

>Diary | Madeira on Instagram

>

I love using Instagram to make my pictures look prettier. Since I don’t always have my camera with my, I use the camera on my iPhone a lot. The pictures aren’t always the prettiest however, when taken with my phone. So I use Instagram to cover up the fact that the quality of the pictures isn’t that high. And it kind of looks cool too, don’t you think? Today I used Instagram to show you what my day looked like yesterday.
Here’s what you’re looking at:
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Waking up on the balcony. The view isn’t too bad. =)
- The things I brought when going to the pool, getting a bit of a tan.
- Chilling at the pool lounge in the hotel, in the afternoon.
- Having some delicious seafood in a restaurant.
- The view we had when sitting at the restaurant. I love the sea.
- Trying out wavy hair. I’m not sure about that yet.
- My boyfriends new girlfriend.

>To Tat or not to Tat – Part Two

>

As you’ve seen in one of my earlier posts, I’m playing with the idea of having a tattoo. Thank you for all the reactions on the matter. However, I’m still indecisive about the whole thing. It’s quite something, having a tattoo on your body for the rest of your life. There are a few things I would certainly do IF I would get one:
- Make sure I pick a spot that can be covered up.
- Have something small and not too drastic.
- Don’t have a tattoo that is ‘in fashion’ right now (remember the tribal?).
- If I pick a design, I’ll wait for at least four months and then see if I still like it that much.
But still, I’m not even sure about a design. I do really like text tattoos, though. So I think it would be a text, or just a word. I’ve again been searching for a little inspiration, and here are some designs I like. Especially the first one, maybe not so much the words itself, but the way it looks and where it’s placed. What do you think?
