The Answers

Thanks for all the questions you asked me the past week, I had no idea you had so many! I really feel like opening up to you guys though because I’m really thankful for all of you reading my blog every day and being supportive! I’ve tried to answer all the questions and I hope it’s not too disappointing (especially the staying in shape part haha).

What made you start fashion blogging?
I used to read (and still do of course) a lot of blogs and during summer last year I had a some time on my hands and I thought to myself: if I had a fashion blog, what would I fill it with? I’ve been into fashion for a long time and could easily think of a hundred things so I decided to just jump into it and give it a try. I thought it would be nice if my mum, boyfriend and some of my friends would read it because I started mainly for fun, but it kind of got a little out of control.. ;)

I’m curious to see the interior of your apartment. You live with your boyfriend, how is that?
I did a small post on my apartment last year, find it here. It’s just a nice 2 bedroom apartment in the middle of the city centre of Arnhem. I’ve been living with my boyfriend for 3,5 years now and we also have 2 cats and I absolutely love our life together, I couldn’t be happier.

What do you study? And what kind of job would you want? Do you work?
This July I graduated for my Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and I did a Minor (a few courses) in Communication and New Media. I was going to start my Master’s in September, I want to do New Media & Digital Culture (at the University of Utrecht) but unfortunately it was full so now I have to wait until February and start then. It’s fine though because now I really have time to focus on my blog, which is my only job right now. In terms of future jobs I’m not completely sure yet but I really love writing so writing for a magazine or very cool website would be amazing, but I also like working in (online) communications. There’s actually quite a lot I would want to do!

What do you do on a daily basis? How do you structure your days as a fashion blogger? How much time does it take? How do you combine it with study/work?
As you can read in the answer above my main focus right now is my blog. So I work on that, take pictures, answer loooaaadsss of emails, keep up with my administration, do taxes, have meetings, go to events, browse the internet for inspiration for my blog, the occasional shopping of course and well, really maintaining a blog is actually a lot of work! Especially now that I have to have an administration for taxes. It really depends on the day in terms of how much time I’m working on my blog, sometimes 3 hours, often longer and sometimes I’m in Amsterdam all day for meetings and events. And it’s in my head 24/7! Combining it with my study when I start again in February will be hard, definitely, and I’m not sure how I’m going to juggle yet but I’m sure I will manage. When I was still doing my Bachelor’s and blogging at the same time I was already juggling and at that time my blog wasn’t even that big, nor a real ‘company’ yet, so back then I mainly worked on my blog every night and studied during the day. But it’s all about passion though. Because I’m really passionate of what I do right now, it doesn’t feel like work. It all still feels like a really fun thing I just do so it’s not even hard on me. I love blogging!

Is blogging a pleasure all the time? How did you get to where you are now in terms of blogging success?
To me it really is a pleasure all the time. I never get tired. Seeing so many people reading my blog, appreciating my posts by liking, leaving comments or just returning every day, it gives me an instant happiness. I really didn’t think it would be this rewarding and I feel really lucky every day. Growing my blog is on the one hand something I worked really hard on, just by improving, more improving, thinking about things like branding and staying true to myself but in the mean time strategize and look at what people want to see. On the other hand there wasn’t really a certain point when I started to have more success, it kind of just slowly happened and before I knew it I actually had quite a few readers! I don’t think there’s anything that triggered it (there might have been) but I think it is very important, if you are serious about having success, to keep a good eye on who you are, what you want to achieve and how you want people to see you.

Who makes your pictures and how do you organize your shoots?? And can we see him/her? Does he/she ever gets tired of making pictures?
My boyfriend takes almost all of my pictures, and sometimes my dad does it when my boyfriend is on a trip abroad or when we went to Italy last month. I really have the most supportive boyfriend who takes time after work and in his well-earned weekends to help me with my blog and make my pictures. I’ve posted a picture of him in this diary. He’s not very keen on being photographed but I’ll ask him for another picture. I think he might get tired of taking pictures sometimes but he doesn’t really show it, he always takes them. Like I said, best boyfriend in the world. I probably wouldn’t even be blogging if it wasn’t for him.

What camera and lens do you use?
I use a Nikon D3100 camera with a 50mm 1.4f lens.

What are your favorite inspiration blogs? Do you have a style icon?
I follow a huge amount of blogs but the girls that inspire me most are the ones that wear wearable stuff, mix designer with brands like H&M and Zara and look really natural. Not too girly, just like myself. My absolute favorite blogger is Columbine, but I also love Elin Kling, Hanna Stefansson, Cindy, Mija, Hedvig, Camille, Maria, and Laura. I also get a lot of inspiration from Blue is in Fashion This Year. And there’s a lot more, but I’ll leave you with these few. I don’t really have a style icon in the sense of ‘I want to look like that’ but there are definitely women who really inspire me by having a distinct and very cool style and a natural way of having that style, like they are supposed to wear that. Does that make sense? Women that I feel that way about are Julia Sarr-Jamois, Emanuelle Alt, Miss Kling again, Leigh Lezark and probably many more that I can’t think of at the moment (it’s really late when typing this, so many questions!).

How do you finance your shopping habits?
I get that question a lot, also comments like ‘you have new clothes so often’. The truth is, as a blogger I’m lucky to have regular sponsorships with great brands so absolutely not everything new is something I bought myself. Next to that I’ve turned my blog into a little profit-making company (not that I can live off it, but still) so that’s great. And while I’m still a ‘student’ (even though I’m not until February).. Well, let’s just say, I couldn’t really live without my parents. I don’t have that much money but the key for me is prioritizing. I choose to spend very little money on things like make-up, I do smart grocery shopping, don’t spend much money on going out.. I just choose to spend my money how I want to spend it the key to that is really make priorities. Do you want to spend 20€ on drinks that you will get a hangover from the next morning, or on a cute top from Zara? Both is fine, I always go for the second option ;).

What is your favorite choice in accessories?
Shoes! Is that obvious? A girl can never have too many shoes! And I’m also really much into statement necklaces the last months!

Which make up products do you use on a daily base? Can you do a beauty routine post?
I use a foundation from Catrice (I think that’s Dutch, not sure) and then any random black eyeliner that is in promotion at the time I need it, and the same goes for mascara. As I said above, I prioritize and don’t really want to spend a lot of money on make-up when budget make-up does quite well. My favorite mascara is Hypnose by Lancome but I hardly ever buy it, I usually use L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes. Nothing on my lips, sometimes a little facial powder from M.A.C. So I’m not sure if that would be an interesting beauty routine post!

What do you do to stay in shape? How is your diet? Do you exercise?
A lot of you asked this, and I’m a little ashamed of the answer haha. I don’t work out. At all. Of course, when I go somewhere I walk or take the bike, and I do walk a lot, but no sports of any kind. I should really though, because it’s healthy. But when it comes to sports, I’m a little lazy. I don’t really have a certain set diet as well. I really just eat what I want to, when I want to. Sometimes that is a lot (I can eat loads, really), but sometimes it’s not that much. Of course I eat my 2 fruits a day and veggies, and mainly whole wheat bread or crackers and yoghurt, but I also really love chocolate and when my boyfriend and I are busy we’re really good at getting take out food or microwave meals. So, sometimes healthy, sometimes not. :)

What do you do in life for recharging batteries?
What helps me when recharging batteries is of course my blogs and reading all of your sweet comments every day. Sometimes I make blogposts really late at night and I just want to go to sleep, but keeping in mind what it’s for (all of you) always gives me energy. Also, sometimes I like to take a day off Twitter and Instagram and stay in bed in my PJ’s all day and watch series or spend quality time with my boyfriend.

How long are you with your boy now? Show us more of his style!
I’ve been with him for almost 4 years now. I’ll try to bring in more of his style in diaries and such, I hope he’ll agree haha!

How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Aaah I hate that question! I really don’t know! I’m not even sure if I want to know, really. It’s kind of exciting that I have so much ahead of me and I like to focus on ‘enjoying the road’ more than seeing where it takes me. Of course I am curious, but I like that I can still go any way I want to and my life is still quite ‘flexible’. I’ll probably be married, maybe even be a mother. I might work as an editor for a fashion magazine, I might not live in the Netherlands anymore, but I might also have chosen a totally different direction and not work in fashion. I guess I’ll just see where life takes me!

I’ve tried to answer almost all of your questions so I hope you’ll enjoy reading the answers and get to know me a bit better. If there’s anything I haven’t answered or have a really burning question you forgot to ask, leave it in the comments and I will try to answer it ASAP!
Enjoy your weekend loves!

Nice to know about you more! :)
I stumbled upon Columbine’s blog a while ago and I fell in love with her style immediately. Mostly the blogosphere is full of very lovely and down-to-earth people, but I must say this is not the case. Unfortunately, she doesn’t publish her followers’ comments. I would be grateful for having so many followers and fans, but hey, that’s just me. I still find that attitude to be quite unfortunate.
I think in blogging it is not only important to look good, have a great style but also to have a great personality, be thought-provoking, well read, and also be humble, but it appears some people can get a bit too full of themselves. I am glad you are not in the latter category.x

Lucy, thanks for answering all those questions, I know it wasn’t that easy and took a lot of your time. You have a great, great blog, and it’s really nice that you’re grateful and thankful for your readers! Sometimes I notice when bloggers get more readers/traffic, they become a bit removed from the people following them and more like a “blogger celebrity,” but it really says something about you as a person to want to connect more with everyone and let them know that you appreciate them!

I completely agree with Ailya! It is refreshing to see someone who still wants to connect with their readers in some way… I have seen many bloggers get to caught up in themselves and I am sure they have lost readers because of it :) It isn’t always easy to respond to every Tweet, every “like”, or ever reader comment (believe me I know-LOL), but at least you make an effort to.

    Much <3 Lucy :)
