On the Hot List – at De Bijenkorf

Resort, almost spring. Mentally, I’m totally ready. My wardrobe isn’t really ready yet though. Of course, there’s the basics that are always in my closet: the great skinnies I’ve been wearing for years, the white, black and grey tees. My wardrobe pretty much consists of a stable amount of basics and every season I like to add a few eye catchers, items to spice up those basics. So what’s on the Hot List (and in store) right now? Here’s some of it, partly on the Hot List in the entire industry, partly on the Hot List because I love it. Also on top of their game this season? Dutch department store de Bijenkorf, adding more and more luxury brands to their online store and stocking all the hot pieces in this article. Like this blouse and these shorts above from the Acne Resort 2014 collection. I saw them in real life and they’re so good. Sequins are making a comeback looking at spring and even fall 2014 collections and I love a high quality sequin piece when done well. Guess you can always trust Acne for that.. Get the top here and the shorts here.

What you wore this fall but can still wear this spring: slogan shirts and logomania. Sweaters are having a big moment as well and both trends are combined in these 2 pieces from Isabel Marant Étoile, absolutely on the Hot List right now. resort spring ss13 trends hot list baby blue

I’ve been talking about it already, but baby blue is my color of choice this season, and not only mine. I adore this 3.1 Phillip Lim mini satchel, so cute!

resort hot list bold artsy prints

Colorful geometric prints, abstract prints and color clashing. Come spring, everyone (even me) is ready to add some color to their wardrobe, brighten it up a little. Now I’m very restrained when it comes to any print in color, but geometrical prints do often catch my attention and when a print is done really really well, even I give in to it every now and then. Maybe not as much as Henry Holland does with the geometric track pants and sequin printed tee you see above, but if even Paul Smith makes a good geo printed pant (second one pictured) – who knows what’s to come this spring! Are you ready?

Current obsession

spring 2014 trend baby blue color

So lately I’ve been obsessing over baby blue and have been adding quite some baby blue stuff to my wardrobe. I’m not really sure what triggered this sudden obsession but I feel like I just have to go with it. There’s just something about it being the least feminine pastel color (because you know, blue, boys..) and the big contrast between cute blue and dark black that really appeals to me. And I’m in a spring mood as well even though it’s hardly almost spring, but luckily it already is in stores. So here are some of my baby blue picks from my favorite online store. 1, 4 and 7 are actually already in my wardrobe and I’m seriously considering number 2 and 5 as well.
So tell me, what’s your color of choice for this spring?

Shop my picks:
1. Oversized V-neck jumper / 2. Plimsoll trainers / 3. Midi skirt
4. Lace crop top / 5. Patent mini skirt
6. Jumper with zippers / 7. Vest with drape armhole / 8. Boyfriend sweatshirt
9. Fluffy cocoon coat / 10. Oversized lace top

Couture on Kicks

chanel couture spring 2014 show sneakers

I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited over any haute couture show as I am over the Chanel Spring 2014 Haute Couture show. I don’t really watch haute couture since it’s very far from my personal style and interest, but when I found out about the sneakers at Chanel last week, I was really happy. Happy to see something different in Haute Couture, a shift towards wearability (because when Chanel does sneakers in a couture show, it’s a shift), always happy to see sneakers. Where I was always convinced that sneakers can be worn with anything, as long as you own that s**t, Lagerfeld now seems to agree with me that even couture dresses and kicks indeed go very well together. And if you can wear couture dresses with sneakers, you can wear anything with sneakers, or at least that’s my logic. It’s the shoe of the year, no doubt about that.

On a slightly different but related note: First images of Riccardo Tisci and Nike’s collaboration are out, and here’s some of what we can expect from what I think will be a match made in heaven, Givenchy’s designer and Nike. Who’s excited? And where can I put myself on a pre-order list?

Tee Talk, part 2

statement printed text t-shirt sweatshirts favorites

My favorite thing to wear at the moment is a top with cool print, preferably a fun text. After I got the Supermarket tee I got into that, and suddenly cool tees and sweatshirts started popping up everywhere. The great thing about a cool shirt that you can just wear your favorite skinny jeans or denim shirts with some sneakers and a t-shirt, a super simple formula that gets way more interesting when your t-shirt talks. So here’s some of my favorites out there at the moment. I would love to get this one and this one because they’re so me, but I wouldn’t really mind any of them in my closet. I did get one of them but made myself hold in after that since there’s a lotttt of new stuff in my closet that I still haven’t shown you. First things first!

1. Little black dress / 2. Fashion / 3. I’d rather be shopping / 4. Blablabla
5. Where’s the food / 6. Take me to Paris / 7. Last clean shirt
8. Ain’t no wifey / 9. NO / 10. We are the dreamer
11. Will die alone with 72 cats / 12. Féminine / 13. The Others 23 / 13. NYC-Brooklyn 71

Resort 2014

resort 2014 favs 1resort 2014 fashion trends favsresort 2013 dropped waist peplum trend

Seasons, seasons. It can be quite confusing. Summer hasn’t properly started yet (I don’t call those few good days we had summer), but summer collections are on sale right now and pre-fall is dropping in online and in stores. My mind is already in pre-fall, but at the same time resort collections are out in the open already and the professionals are getting ready to see spring/summer 2014. Where are we at?
Well, let’s say I’m most interested in what’s to come for Pre-Fall and Fall at the moment since those are my favorite seasons, I’m slowly giving up on summer and I’m really excited about the fall trends to come (I’ll do a post about it later). But of course I want to see what Resort collections are like and do some early trendspotting. These are my favorite looks. I’m spotting some really cool tailoring, oversized is still a great look, pinstripes are a winner (love that white pinstripe suit from Thakoon) and what I’m most excited about seeing are all those comfy but cool flats. Also: I have a bit of an aversion to peplum but I’m really digging this dropped waist, more slouchy peplum in the last two looks! Oh and can I pre-order those 2tone trousers from Chloé, please?

Which season is your head at?

Surftrain: My Favorite Shoe Trends

Surftrain shoes

I got a question from a reader a little while ago asking what shoes we really ‘need’ this spring, so I decided to do a Surftrain on my favorite shoe trends of the moment! For those of you who don’t know how a Surftrain works: if you click the image you go to the Surftrain directly. All you have to do is sit back, watch, and I will take you to different websites automatically. If you want you can pause (in the box right below), forward or go back. I’ll talk to you a little about what you’re looking at and you don’t have to do anything except enjoy :) Unfortunately it doesn’t work on mobile phones or iPads yet but hopefully it will soon! The story lasts about 6 minutes and after that you can find a list of with the links I brought you to. Give it a try, it’s really fun!
You can click the image or click here to go to the Surftrain and it will start right away. I’d love to hear what you think!

SS13 Favorites

A roundup of my SS13 favorites, not complete but it does sketch an image of what I love from all those collections! Going through all the collections there were quite a few surprises, but a few little disappointments as well. As you can see Proenza Schouler is a big favorite, I was just really ‘wow-ed’ by the perforated, colored and patchwork leather, the gorgeous prints, the interesting details and of course, the bags. But I also loooove what Stella is doing and her sporty chic and shapes are the best I’ve seen for SS13. Also adore 3.1 Phillip Lims collection that was really surprising and has so many different elements, especially the 3 looks I pictured above, wouldn’t mind wearing those at all! And then there was Céline.. Obviously and as expected the clothes are impeccable and even though I liked Fw12 better (Phoebe is going a bit more feminine and Margiela in SS13) the shoes startled me. I can’t say I’m a big fan of the health-shoe-look and furry lumpish pumps under gorgeous clean cut suits, but maybe that’s just me. Isabel Marant is not entirely my cup of tea for SS13, but I guess FW12 wasn’t either (even though when I finally got used to Western I started appreciating FW12 a lot more) and Alexander Wang did great innovations and gorgeous things but doesn’t have an immediate I-want-to-wear factor for me. Let me finish with the note that this roundup is a little incomplete but surely contains my absolute favorites. I could have put more Prabal in it, a little Rag & Bone, or Jil Sander, but I feel like above is a clear picture of what inspires me. Conclusion? Goodbye skinny jeans!
