If you’d ask me what the ultimate spring shoe is, not from just this spring, but every season – it would be a pair of white chucks. Goes with anything, is a sneaker (because we want to be active and outside in spring) and I can’t believe I didn’t have a pair until now, with my endless love for great basics. Now I do have to watch out sometimes not to confuse basics with essentials, because when I tried to convince someone the other day that leopard trousers were really a great basic anyone should own and he (maybe that was the problem) didn’t agree I realized that there’s definitely a difference between basics and essentials. Basics are items you do really need: the black leather jacket, the black skinny jeans, the white t-shirt, and so on. Essentials can change when your style, trends or even the season changes. Most of all, essentials are personal. Everyone has their own essentials, for me a pair of leopard trousers is an essential, for someone else it might be a red skirt or a pair of sliders (definitely an essential for this summer). You don’t have to own all the basics, nor all the essentials. But I do enjoy owning and wearing them more than just random items I like and than buy, which I don’t do very often anymore.
To make a long story short: here’s what I’m wearing today. The basics: white chucks and an oversized black knit (which to me are also essentials)/ the essentials: leopard trousers.
I know it’s a big of a vague story but that’s what was on my mind today – I hope it makes sense and I’ll do a post on my spring essentials later this week!
But not before I have a big surprise for you guys tomorrow ;)
There’s certain pieces in a wardrobe that you will buy a lot of until you find the perfect one and then you’ll only need one. I’ve bought a lot of (faux) leather jackets in the past but ever since I’ve found the perfect one, that one is all I wear – and all I need. Same goes for watches. I used to have only 2, the perfect simple one, the perfect rose gold one, but I’ve never found the perfect gold watch until now. Not only is it the most gorgeous gold watch – just the right shade of gold, simple but with just the right details and very high quality – it’s also the coolest new watch in town. May I present you the Sort of Black Gold watch, a collaboration between Triwa and Rasmus Storm (i.a. owner of concept store Storm in Copenhagen) who have created 4 gorgeous watches (see them all here) and launched their collection last week (exclusively available at 10 stores worldwide including Storm, Hypebeast Store, Colette and online at Triwa.com. I feel very happy to be one of the first people wearing this watch and even more than that I’m in love with it and wear it all the time. It reminds me to not settle for anything less than what I’m looking for and invest in really good pieces.
I’ve been pretty much killin it this week if I may say so – getting tons of work done, getting my taxes done right, moving into an office and doing the NSMBL sale yesterday (thanks for everyone who came!), so my sweatshirt could not have been more appropriate. Hard work always pays off and I definitely feel like it did this week. The only thing that suffered was my night’s rest – I’m absolutely exhausted right now and have been feeling like I’m getting the flu all week (you know that in between-feeling when you’re not feeling well but well enough to work? hate it) so I might take a day off today (but let’s see if I actually will) and catch up on some sleep and relaxing, because I also have a busy but fun week ahead!
When tired and busy I always opt for the always good to go-pieces: skinny jeans – and yes, these are again Cheap Monday second skin jeans of which I have 4 and they are my favorite jeans ever – big sweaters and the buy of the week: Vans with cat print. I mean, Vans with cat print. YES.
So far I’m loving April. The sun is shining, the weather is amazing, I’m in a good mood every day and work wise I really can’t complain either. But there’s even still more to come for April, I’m sure you Dutchies are already looking forward to King’s Day (Koningsdag, celebrating the Dutch Kings birthday) on the 26th, I definitely am. When holidays and parties like this are coming up I always start thinking about what to wear really early. Especially with this holiday, because it’s a thing to wear orange that day and I refuse. But I decided on what to wear this King’s Day: black and gold. It doesn’t really get more royal to me than black and gold so I figured it would be the perfect color combination for me that day (and I love how the adidas logo kind of looks like a crown, especially in gold). Of course I’m wearing sneakers, since I’ll be walking all day. And since all black would be a bit dark I thought I’d add some color, in the form of a super cool Adidas logo sweat - since I’m bringing a sweater anyway for when things cool off at night.
So there you go, my King’s Day look. Can’t wait for one of the best spring parties. I’m especially excited for 8Bahn and Pink City Nomads – much recommended if you’re in Arnhem!

Spring is in the air. Beautiful first sunrays, dewey green leafs and blooming flowers, I love the fragile new spring, the first moment that you can just feel it in the air, there’s something enchanting about it. To celebrate spring and make our own enchanting moment, Chantal and I went to the park to celebrate spring with Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Edition Première..
Since its foundation in 1811, Perrier-Jouët has been nourished by authenticity, elegance and a real passion for nature. For this season Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps fashioned an ephemeral Champagne Cuvée as he would compose a spring bouquet, refreshing and floral with fruity scents such as cherry and hints of juicy yellow fruit, citrus, a zest of Yuzu and the dominant scent of white elderflowers: Belle Epoque Edition Première. The elegant bottle reflects both the freshness and delicacy of the champagne as it is gorgeous.
It’s not the first time me and Chantal decided to celebrate spring and make it a special moment with a champagne that lives up to the beauty of spring. Last year we had our moment here, but this time it felt extra special. Last year was such a tough year for me and I’ve been living 2014 to the fullest after many unfortunate events that made last year one of my hardest so far. But this spring really marks new beginnings for me and when I compare where I was last year and where I am now, I feel very lucky. I was happy to share this special ode to spring with the sweet and pretty Chantal whose editorial work I really admire and who made it possible to translate our special moment into pictures.
May this spring be as blooming for you as the flowers are. And never hesitate to celebrate an enchanting moment with something special such as we did here with Perrier-Jouët.
Enjoy Perrier-Jouët responsibly.
